I watched this film today.
I don’t really want to manage a coffee shop.
After much contemplation and no rushing, I have finally settled on this year’s New Years Resolution.
Because, looking back, some of the things I did poorly are as nice as the things I did well. I really ought to be more diligent about staying in touch, though.
Seven things I did well in 2008:
1. cut my bangs well
2. baked Adam’s birthday cake well
3. stood by my friends through a rough time [...]

I don’t remember what first got the idea of pasta-making in my head, but I remember asking for a hand-cranked pasta roller on my 15th birthday. I remember the little blue pasta cookbook I picked up for a buck at Barnes & Noble, and the feel of the egg and flour becoming

1. To consistently bake soft, spongy loaves of whole grain bread.
2. To make things with wood.
3. A third language.
-taking pictures of all the wonderful September foods that find their way from the farm to my cutting board.
-buying Sunday morning pastries from Sophias.
-finishing this book
-reading this interview
-waking with the sun
-doing morning chores
-sharing an evening beer on the porch with Adam
-working with my hands
-thinking about taking a carpentry class
-writing by candle light
Outside our bedroom window are the leaves of a tall tree. As I write this morning, three small sparrows are gnawing on its tough, red berries. I tried a small bite of one once. It was tasteless and bitter, probably poisonous. It makes me happy to see the birds enjoy them. [...]
